Inside measurements: 8″ x 10″. Outside measurements: 12″ x 14″. It has its original finish, which is glossy…not super high gloss, but it is shiny. Sturdy and solid.
As is the case with many of these “leaf corner” antique frames that are about 130 years old or so, the points on each leaf are not always all there. I find it virtually impossible to notice, but please look and make sure that it isn’t of concern to you. In this case one of the leaves is missing. The “Gestalt” of the frame is lovely; it’s just not absolutely perfect.
We have been unable to locate information of the print. It is titled “Good Night,” designed and published by N. Monroe, MD, Philadelphia, PA. As indicated the image was entered into the Library of Congress in 1872. However, we did not find it on the Library of Congress website, but we did find an identical image entered in 1873 attributed to a company in Portland, ME. A bit of a mystery maybe?
Full Disclosure: This frame is in good condition for its age. There is one leaf missing from the frame but is only visible upon close inspection. The glass is chipped at the top. We assume it is the original glass. The print has staining which appears to be water or moisture damage. This is noticeable upon close inspection. The backing appears to be original and in fair condition.
